I am the original creator and main moderator of the "Dark Christianity" LJ community. The community was created in 2003 as a 'hobby horse' spot to put articles about the extreme religious right, and has been refined as it has grown into the community it is today.

I got into the study of the Religious Right as an act of self-defense when I was harried by aggressive evangelicals while serving in the military. I read "Holy Terror" by Conway and Siegelman in 1981 which started my study and observation of these Christians, and over the last 25 years I have learned a lot about them. I have watched them rise out of relative obscurity and take over many mainline Christian sects, gain control over the Republican party, then ascend to power and begin eroding the intent of the Establishment Clause.

I am not anti-Christian, but I believe that religion (all religion!) and government should be kept separate, if we want to preserve the intent of our Founders and the integrity of our democratic republic.

Since Dark Christianity was created, many other sites have arisen to confront, discuss and understand this religious threat to our freedom. Sites like Talk to Action, DefCon, and Religious Right Watch, among many others, now exist to cover this subject. Theocracy Watch was the seminal site, and I am deeply grateful to the many links it provided to help prove my points to sometimes skeptical friends.

My wish is that this wiki becomes a resource for information about the Religous Right, and spurs its readers to do what they can to turn the tide.
